About me
I’m Sabrina. A mommy and a wife. Runner, photographer, yoga teacher. Not always in that order. I used to be a high school Spanish teacher in another lifetime.
I’ve always loved taking pictures. From my parent’s oldest Polaroid to a manual (gasp!) Nikon in college, to a slew of point-and-shoots, I have been clicking all my life. When my oldest son was born, I realized how quickly children change and how important it was to me to document each different expression, milestone, and mishap. After a few months of dragging him to a retail chain store to have a monthly portrait done, I realized I wanted to be the one behind the camera capturing those memories. And once I “got serious” about taking his portrait, I wanted to take everyone’s portrait. I wanted to give everyone I knew the timeless gift of portraiture.
While I started out as a “MWAC” (mom with a camera), inspired by my BFF, who purchased a DSLR when we were both due with our first kiddos, I immediately immersed myself in learning as much as I could about photography. I am mainly self-taught through books and the internet, but have worked with a master photographer as my mentor and have attended classes and workshops at the Houston Center for Photography as well as online. I participate in the online photography forums Clickin’ Moms and PinkleToes4Photographers and subscribe to various blogs and websites to keep up with current trends and technology. I always have a stack of photography books I am working through on various subjects–technique, editing, creativity, and critique, for example. As a teacher at heart, I am hardwired to continually advance my knowledge and experience. My five-year goal is to attain the CPP–Certified Professional Photographer–distinction. To borrow a line from another photographer: “You’ve always been in good hands, but I want to make it “official”. ”
My style is all about funny faces and serious faces and color and black and white. You’ll hear a lot of catch phrases–”lifestyle” or “photojournalistic”. I just want to document your family, children and relationships in a fun and authentic way. I’ll never ask you to say “cheese” and I know that the most true-to-life images are not always with you facing the camera and posing. My goal is for you to be relaxed and have fun during the session while interacting as a family (or as an individual expressing your uniqueness).
It’s an honor to step into your world and be with your family to document the very special and everyday moments. I can’t wait to work with you!
