About Sabrina K. Photography:

Welcome to my blog! I'm Sabrina Koogler, and I love photography! I always have my nose in a photography book, camera to my face, working on a challenge, workshop, or contest (in between sessions and processing!) becoming the best photographer I can be! I used to teach high school Spanish, and now I'm a stay-at-home mom to two adorable, rascally boys. Sabrina K Photography is my third baby, born of the need to document all of the milestones, wild times, and quiet moments of my children and others. My style is fun and natural. I seek to document the authentic "you" in my images. I offer custom portraiture in the Houston area, and I'm based in Pearland. I enjoy working with natural light and studio lighting--it's fun having a dual-sort of personality! And it certainly keeps things interesting!

    Farewell, Southeast Texas

    Monday, January 24th, 2011

    Wow, time sure flies!

I had planned to write this post on December 30–the day before we moved back to Pearland. However, AT&T in their infinite “helpfulness” (yes, that was very sarcastic and a euphemism) turned off our Internet a day early (eeeks! a day with no internet or home phone! the horror!). So things got put on the back burner.

I have to tell you, as a person who has moved a bit–moving just gets tougher and tougher every time. (This is the third time we’ve moved into this house in the six years we’ve owned it–does that count as moving a lot?) Of course, we’ve “acquired” a family member since the last time we moved and he accounts for a bit of the challenge. And despite several serious purges, we are still brimming with “stuff”. It’s all gotta go someplace! And once that is done, then my poor stepchild of a business gets some much-needed attention.

Are you following me? Am I just ranting? Moving = difficult + kids = more difficult + wanting to get back to shooting other people’s kids = what I would rather be doing instead of unpacking another box of STUFF!!

And have I mentioned the “baby” is now crawling??!! He’s currently on a mission to unplug the phone jack from the wall, disconnecting me from the Internet so I can’t write this post.

And so we come full circle again.

I enjoyed my year in Southeast Texas tremendously. I met some A-Ma-Zing friends who I will love forever and ever.  Big pink puffy hearts, gals! I miss so many things about living there–gorgeous light, a little bit of nature, the sound of the ships passing in the night. (Granted, there are things I am THRILLED to be away from, including all of the crummy appliances in our rental and the washer/dryer located in the garage. ugh!).

I captured this image with my husband’s camera on one of our last days there on a gorgeous evening where he would take our big guy fishing in the kayak and crabbing. I love the sight of the Rainbow and Memorial Bridges.

Farewell, SETX. You were good to me and my family. And I thank you for that.

Well, I guess that about does it for sentimental. Please excuse me as I take a dog bone away from the baby who’s chewing on it.

    Christmas Outfits

    Thursday, December 16th, 2010

Every year I start thinking about these, oh, around the Fourth of July. Embarrassing, I know! This year was easier and more difficult because I had the baby’s outfit saved from my big guy when he was little BUT I had to match it with something for the 3 year-old. And the hats were a MUST, according to my husband! I think they turned out pretty cute!

There’s one more Santa, Baby! in here because I just can’t get enough of those rolls and cellulite! BTW, all he wants for Christmas is to eat some shoes!

Oh my sweet adorable hat goodness! These driving hats are totally a hit! I feel like I have my own personal Oliver Twists in the house!

It’s not the “swimming gorilla” that he asked Santa for, but this gift will have to do!

    Happy Holidays, y’all!

    Workshop

    Tuesday, December 14th, 2010

So in our spare time (insert cough or hysterical laughter here), we photographers spend a lot of time, money and energy becoming even better photographers by reading books, participating in forums, and taking or attending workshops. Wow. Did you just feel let in on the secret lives of photographers? Was it even a little exciting? Okay, maybe not.

Anyway. . .I a member of this great forum for photographers at all levels–Clickin Moms.  It’s a great resource if you’re just getting started with photography, a business, post-production, etc. but it is also a wonderful place for pros and they offer the BEST workshops! Seriously, I am not kidding. If you are even considering one of their workshops, just stop thinking and press the “pay now” button. You will not regret it.

So this past month I participated in an Advanced Creativity and Composition online workshop. It was faboo. Learned a lot and put into practice some great concepts that I had read about and technically “knew” but was not yet using.

Here are some images from our first assignment exploring different ways of filling the frame.

I know what you’re thinking: “Any excuse to get donuts, right, Sabrina?” Say what you will, the images (and the donuts!) were really fabulous!

Thanks to my two wonderful models!

    My sweet five-month-old

    Monday, November 8th, 2010

Well, I’m only a month behind on posting these, and I better do it quickly before a good friend of mine starts to think I am procrastinating or worse–holding out–on editing her family session (seriously, there are just SO many great images! It’s almost intimidating to get started!)

Here was last month’s portraits of my little guy. I don’t normally do a lot of studio work, but with babies it is sometimes easier than going outdoors (especially if you child attracts every mosquito in the tri-county area and then has a horrible allergic reaction to them!). We did this month’s portrait outside (yesterday) and while they were fabulous, he has the massive mosquito-bite welts to prove it.

And, really, why are the mosquitoes out, anyway? It’s too cool for mosquitoes??!!

But back to the five month portrait. ..

Oh, heavens I love this one. It’s so serious but sweet. My little guy is a very smiley boy but I love this quiet moment as well!

And there’s that sweet smile! My little Superman baby!

Oh my sweet pumpkin! It’s hard to believe that just a month ago he was not so steady sitting up and was really holding onto that pumpkin! (Then he promptly look a header, thus completing our session.) What a sweet little pumpkin!

(And I know that every major retailer in America has already moved on to Christmas decorations, but I am still savoring fall and pumpkins and leaves and corn and apples. Be ready to see more of that here! Of course, I am setting up for my Christmas holiday portraits next week, too! Gotta be ready with kids!)
