About Sabrina K. Photography:

Welcome to my blog! I'm Sabrina Koogler, and I love photography! I always have my nose in a photography book, camera to my face, working on a challenge, workshop, or contest (in between sessions and processing!) becoming the best photographer I can be! I used to teach high school Spanish, and now I'm a stay-at-home mom to two adorable, rascally boys. Sabrina K Photography is my third baby, born of the need to document all of the milestones, wild times, and quiet moments of my children and others. My style is fun and natural. I seek to document the authentic "you" in my images. I offer custom portraiture in the Houston area, and I'm based in Pearland. I enjoy working with natural light and studio lighting--it's fun having a dual-sort of personality! And it certainly keeps things interesting!

    Project 52 (week 7) AND Project 12: {LOVE}

    Thursday, February 16th, 2012

    Love day has come and gone. It was fun.  And Pinterest-filled for all except for this slacker mom. My kids survived. Sheesh.

    This week and month’s theme both are {LOVE}. Two birds; one stone. I’m all for multitasking these days.

    Here’s my image:

    I could post so many things with the theme of love. My family. My life as a Christian. My new camera bag.  But this really touched my heart and I knew it had to be this. My big guy was so excited last week to show me how to make a heart with your hands (he learned it at school). I made the “love” wallpaper/overlay as part of the “trying something new” that I’m wanting to get out of this year of challenges. Was pretty okay with how it turned out!

    So go take a look-see over at Misty Seltzer | Lubbock, TX Family Photographer to get her take on {LOVE} for the Bloom Forum’s PROJECT 52.

    Project 52: Week 6 {letting go of perfect}

    Thursday, February 9th, 2012

    I’m not a perfectionist.  I would say {perfect} is just something I’m not good at. My husband might amend that statement to say it’s not that I’m not good at it, I’m just lazy about it. And I’ll agree. I’m too tired to try for {perfect}. So this week’s theme {letting go of perfect} just made me feel a bit more apathetic than usual. I’m not striving for perfect so what does the letting go of my bare minimum standards looks like? I could post pictures of my dirty house. My cluttered office. My sandbox-crusted kids. Dishes in the sink. My rarely-used but much-loved Chi. I really had no idea where to start. I mean, brushing my hair in the morning is a big step up for me. (A little TMI? You wonder why I’m rocking that ponytail 364 days a year!!!) So there’s not a whole lot of perfect going on to let go of.

    Or maybe I’m just being hard on myself. I’m admitting to being in a bit of a funk. I think I need just a little more sleep!

    Anyway. . .yesterday this happened and I was somewhat thankful to my toddler for giving me a little reason to {let go of perfect}

    Yes, it is a bit macabre.

    But, honestly, I was not all that upset. I’m not a big collector. This was a gift many years ago and I don’t remember the occasion or the originator.

    I think last week I mentioned that we don’t have a lot of “nice” stuff in our house because of two wild and crazy boys.

    Make that one less nice thing.

    Oh well. Just letting it go.

    Okay, now go check out what Jack and Janie Photography | Katy Photographer has in store here

    Project 52: Week Two {newness}

    Thursday, January 12th, 2012

    I signed up for this project to really start getting out of my “box”.  To really try out some things that I can’t just go experimenting with clients. To do something OTHER than photograph my own children.

    But.  . .this week. .. there was plenty of  {newness} with my own child in this photo. And I did try taking these images in a {new} location (my younger son’s room, where I’ve always considered the lighting to be atrocious. A blackout curtain tends to do that to a room). Anyway. . .I take a monthly portrait of my kids until they are able to tell me they don’t want to take a monthly portrait. Here I was able to kill two birds documenting some {newness} AND 20 months old.
    First of all, my little many has adopted a new “baby”.  It’s quite lovely. The “baby” is a fluffy blue blanket. He rocks his baby. He sleeps with his baby. He takes his baby everywhere. He looks like Charlie Brown’s “Linus” walking around the house with his baby.  (Poor baby even got a mud bath dragging a corner out the side of the running stroller last week). Keane hearts his baby.It’s new and it’s sweet. It’s his first attachment object. At least it’s not a light saber.
    But, wait, the baby is not the only new addition to the house!  Introducing “pet”. “Pet” is an as-seen-on-tv Pillow Pet. Whoever created these monstrosities delightful diversions is a genuis. They are filled with kiddie-crack, I’m certain. Upon opening “Pet” on Christmas Day, they’ve been inseparable. K must sleep with Pet. Pet is now a family member. Oh well. At least I don’t have to feed him.
    And finally rounding out the trifecta of  {newness} is the “big boy haircut”.  We apparently like long hair.  My older son didn’t get a haircut until he was 2 1/2. K is 20 months and has loads more hair than Z did at this age. I was not ready, but now that it’s had a week to grow on me, I love the new big-boy look.
    So here is my official image for the week:
    So this is the money shot. Baby? Check. Pet? Check. Big boy haircut? Check.
    *sob* I’m not sure I’m ready for all this newness. Especially a big little boy who talks a mile a minute and now looks like a little man!
    And here are a few other images. A little rough and tumble with Pet. “Reading” his new favorite book (“dig-n-dump”). And more of that big boy hair:
    In case you are just getting to know me, here’s a reference of how the hair has changed my baby into a big boy:

    Project 52: Week One {you}

    Thursday, January 5th, 2012

    Oh yikes. I have made a commitment. A HUGE commitment (well, okay, not as huge as it could be but *gulp* it sure feels daunting right now!). Through the incredible Bloom Forum (a wonderful resource and source of inspiration for photographers at all levels) I’ve joined a group of super-talented photographers all over the world to participate in a 52-week photography project. Every Friday we will post an image (or two or more–you know me!) with the week’s theme in mind and link to another talented photographer. I cannot wait! I’m looking at this as a chance to get out of any ruts, explore some creative options that I wouldn’t want to necessarily spring on a client, and just play and have fun with the camera. Love!

    So this week the theme was {you}. A self-portrait. It’s all about ME! I have to admit–I’m a ham! I love to be in front of the camera. Yes, seriously! I do! I am not photogenic at all, but I love the limelight! I even taught a distance learning class back in my teaching days where I was on video while I taught and broadcasted to another classroom in another school across town. I loved it! I even wore lipstick.  I loved being on stage. Weird. Yes. (But I got to use oodles of awesome technology and met the awesomest people!). Anyway. . .I totally love the camera. Good thing I’m behind it, right!

    So I’ve done my share of self-portrait work lately.

    I did these two this September:

    Reading with my boys.

    Running with my boys

    And then I decided to do a self-portrait a few weeks ago:

    (I don’t really look like this. We were dressing nicely for a date night and I thought to snap a few while my husband was getting ready. I look old! Gasp!)

    So for this week’s assignment I thought I’d try out a few composites of my multiplicitious nature. Did I just make up that work? Probably. Anyway. .  I wear a lot of hats. Wife. Mom. Runner. Photographer. I’m a Gemini–the Twins–and I definitely have a dual personality.

    See? Somewhat sophisticated and totally frazzled all in one!

    My poor feet do tell a story. They run a lot. Have paced a house holding a baby a lot. Have stood in a kitchen a lot. Have been stepped on a lot.  And I guess my poor bruised shins tell their own story of my clumsiness. Seriously, I have no idea why I have so many bruises. And while the patch tool was calling out to me, I’ve left them there because they are {me}.  And next time I might take off my socks a little while before taking pictures to avoid the sock lines on my legs. That sort of inattention to detail on my own person is me as well.

    So week one is done. Go and check out another photographer’s project here: Misty Setzler | Lubbock,TX Family Photographer (yay! another Texas gal!)
