About Sabrina K. Photography:

Welcome to my blog! I'm Sabrina Koogler, and I love photography! I always have my nose in a photography book, camera to my face, working on a challenge, workshop, or contest (in between sessions and processing!) becoming the best photographer I can be! I used to teach high school Spanish, and now I'm a stay-at-home mom to two adorable, rascally boys. Sabrina K Photography is my third baby, born of the need to document all of the milestones, wild times, and quiet moments of my children and others. My style is fun and natural. I seek to document the authentic "you" in my images. I offer custom portraiture in the Houston area, and I'm based in Pearland. I enjoy working with natural light and studio lighting--it's fun having a dual-sort of personality! And it certainly keeps things interesting!

The only thing better. . .

    Thursday, October 27th, 2011

than one perfectly gorgeous newborn is TWO perfectly gorgeous newborns.

I’m doing a second sneak peek here from my newborn twins with some of my favorite individual images of these gorgeous babies. WOW!

Isn’t she the most peaceful, sweetest little sweet pea ever?

She sleep so soundly for us–we were able to use every headband I wanted to!

Love those wrinkles on her forehead. I wonder what she’s dreaming about? (Or wondering why she’s being contorted in to so many different poses???!!!)

I think this one may be my favorite from the session. She is absolute perfection, indeed!

Then we moved on to work with big brother. He was a dream as well!

I just love those sweet hands!

    Precious.

He’s such a doll with those sweet lips.

And that’s a wrap! I should have everything to you tonight! Thank you again for sharing your gorgeous family with me!

    A special surprise

    Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

Sometimes you get to be a part of something that’s really, really special. And that was this session.

Mom and Dad were celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary, and their three lovely daughters planned an amazing, fantastic weekend getaway for the whole family down at a beach house in Galveston. That alone is a super huge feat of coordination (and also celebrating one of the daughter’s birthdays in there as well–yeah, they were busy!)! But to top things off, the girls got the idea to have a family portrait made–as a surprise.  Special, right? I mean, really special.  But what makes this really, really, really special is that Dad thought (as the family photog) that *he* was going to be the one taking the family portrait. Tripod, remote, everybody smile. I said smile! (Trust me–if you haven’t tried to take a family self-portrait this is stressful. I have in no way mastered being able to be in the picture and not look like I’m still taking the picture. Trust me, it’s stressful!) So the daughter who had contacted me (who I know through our awesome church, Crosspoint) worked with me to make it *such* a surprise for Mom and Dad when it came time for the good ol’ family portrait.  So the plan was for the family to show up, ready for Dad to take the pictures and then I would just pop out of the dunes. Okay, not really, but as they arrived at the designated spot, I was tooling around on the beach, snapping away at shells and interesting seaweed and trying to sneak up on sand crabs when the whole family comes down to the beach. Dad carrying camera bag, tripod, remote.  Stressful! And I can see he’s checking out what I’m doing. .. what kind of camera I’m using (because, let’s face it, we all do that with other photographers in the vicinity!) and then SURPRISE! The daughters announce that he is off the hook for the family portrait! They’ve hired someone to come in and let him relax! It was a pretty cool moment!
And it was a pretty awesome session! This family is super awesome. I have to confess that I’m planning on kidnapping the parents and making them adopt me, they’re that cool. (No offense to my own Mom and Dad, of course! Love you!)
So here’s the family sneak peek. In my mind’s eye this is a total black and white session, but some nice warm tones are growing on me!
So enjoy! Feel the love! I could and want to sneak the whole session but I also want to get this to everyone ASAP!
What a great family! Thanks again, everyone!
Starting off with Mom and Dad. Celebrating a milestone. Big pink puffy heart love their connection!
And if you know me, you know I can’t resist a beach silhouette. With shadows. And a tiny bit of a sun star/flare. Gasp. Love.
So here was the boss of the show:
Little man just turned two years old and this day was the first day he was really “into” playing in the sand and getting pretty dirty! It was so fun to see how fascinated he was with playing in the dirt!
One of my “I’m trying not to look conspicuous” photos from prior to the session and the three lovely daughters who put the whole weekend together. Gorgeous family!
And can I just pause to say that I was SO impressed with how willing to get sandy everyone was! I mean, not just the two-year-old! The whole family was really up for an adventure! Thank you all!
Okay, this one would be a canvas on my wall. Seriously.
And the little guy cracks me up with how completely content he was with what he was doing. I think he was pretty oblivious of the rest of us at this point!
I usually ask ahead of time if families are “huggy” families, but I had not asked this group so I was worried up until about a microsecond after meeting everyone that they would be relaxed and easily enough convinced to get in close and act like they liked each other. Piece of cake!
After a little while we got in the water and kicked and splashed a little bit. Then I asked the group to jump. And then jump again with some “flair”.  Very impressive jumping!
Again, love their connection. A parting shot.
Thanks again for a wonderful session! Can’t wait to have the rest up to you soon!

    Twenty tiny toes

So I have been anticipating this session for a while. I met Mom and Dad a month ago to do their maternity session and they were so fun and gorgeous.  Their twins were due mid-October but arrived a little early. I was so excited that they were both home last week and they were obliging enough to let me take their portraits.

This is just a quick sneak peek. Seriously, little sweet pea let me put every head pretty I own on her. And same with her brother. But these are the images I had in my head when Mom first contacted me about the session. Simple. Black and white. Just these two cuddled. We tried to have them face to face but Mom said that this is how he likes to cuddle up with her in the crib. Oh they are just too sweet for words! And so amazing that their little personalities are coming out already! It was such a blessing to work with this family! Thanks again.

(Okay, I don’t even know the song that well but the song from Dumbo, “Baby Mine”, has been in my head the whole time I was working on these. I just love how close and secure and reassuring these two are together)

(I feel like this image of their feet really speaks a thousand words! This little guy is ready to run! He reminded me so much of my oldest son (running at 10 months!) during the session that it was uncanny. And it made me love him just a little bit more than I normally would already!)

    Thanks again! More to come!

    Fall family session

    Tuesday, October 18th, 2011

So I met up with a fabulous family this weekend. It was a blast. And here’s their sneak peek. With more to come.

And maybe it’s because I’m a mom, but I’m sneaking some “outtakes” here. You know, those images that show you the kids’ personalities but are definitely not with them looking placidly in the camera and smiling.  I always love those, but from this session, those really pulled at my heartstrings. Maybe it’s because these two kids are just too darn stinkin’ cute for words. Maybe it’s because I’ve known mom and Big Brother since he and my big guy were practically babies. Maybe it’s because I did Little Sister’s newborn session about a gazillion years ago and she’s now totally the most verbal, communicative little person ever. Okay, getting sentimental here! On to the photos!

Okay, so I talked a big game about outtakes, and clearly this one is not. Gorgeous family! Love!

Love this series here. So many different expressions in just seconds of the shutter! Mom and Dad were working hard with some wicked “Itsy Bitsy Spider” here!

Wow. Those eyes. Those eyelashes. They are absolutely bananas! Unreal!

Oh my I absolutely love this look.  Gorgeous eyes again (they get these from their gorgeous parents!). He was on a little adventure in the “jungle” here.

And Sister was not far behind, not missing out on the adventure! Or some Itsy Bitsy!

And okay, so here is my second favorite image from the session. These two are in a gorgeous location. We’ve got nice light. No people walking around in the background (you mean, people actually come to nice places to do things other than take photos??). And they are SO not interested in the camera. Really? I was trying hard! The shoe is more interesting than my repertoire of zoo animal sounds? And then *poof* we get their attention, and I love it!

So here are those gorgeous parents again. The surefire way to get the kids interested in taking the family portrait is to try to snap a few shots of good ol’ Mom and Dad.  And I’m finishing with my favorite “outtake” from the session. Totally kids. Parents, we all get this, right?

Thanks for the great session, you guys! Can’t wait to show you the rest!
