About Sabrina K. Photography:

Welcome to my blog! I'm Sabrina Koogler, and I love photography! I always have my nose in a photography book, camera to my face, working on a challenge, workshop, or contest (in between sessions and processing!) becoming the best photographer I can be! I used to teach high school Spanish, and now I'm a stay-at-home mom to two adorable, rascally boys. Sabrina K Photography is my third baby, born of the need to document all of the milestones, wild times, and quiet moments of my children and others. My style is fun and natural. I seek to document the authentic "you" in my images. I offer custom portraiture in the Houston area, and I'm based in Pearland. I enjoy working with natural light and studio lighting--it's fun having a dual-sort of personality! And it certainly keeps things interesting!

    Little Explorer, Family session

    Monday, November 21st, 2011

We met up in a little oasis of nature in the middle of the big city for this session. It was a blast. Little man was so ready to explore! I love all of the moments, emotions, and connections we captured here.

Thank you again for a wonderful session!

I have to admit that a lot of our images were of little man running away from the camera. He was too busy exploring!

    Gorgeous family.

We did a little hiking along the way.

Little Man was an absolute doll. He’s at that wonderful age when all that personality comes out. And those dimples! Oh my!

I love this glance over the shoulder–”I’m off!” He seems to be saying: “Come and get me if you dare!”

    Precious smile.

If you know me, you know I have a thing about hands. I love how they lead you around by the finger at this age. I just want to bottle that moment up forever!

Love this tender moment with this fabulous family!

And maybe these are my favorites. I don’t know. This really was one of my favorite family sessions yet! Thank you all again for coming out (especially “g”-ma for all of your help!)

To say last week was a treat is a complete understatement. Lots of sessions. Met up with a family I hadn’t seen since before they had their most recent addition. Two newborns. Bliss. (Busy! But bliss!)

This little lady is absolutely perfect. Perfect skin. Perfect lips. The most amazing eyelashes ever. Sweetness and light, for sure! I sort of charged my way into doing the session by pestering Dad, who I used to teach with.(Remember I used to do that a few lifetimes ago?!)

Okay, gee, let me try to get by with a brief back story. So Dad is the “cool” teacher. I mean, he teaches Latin. And not the pig version.  You have to be pretty rad to teach a language that only dead people speak. I mean, Gladiator and all. 300. Spartacus! Et tu, Brute!

Anyway. . . back in the day when I taught with Dad, all of us hens in the Foreign Language department (*ahem* LOTE as it is now called (“Languages Other Than English”) thought he was a catch and we did our darnedest to find a match for him. Poor Dad! Anyway. .. unbeknownst to me because I left the school before all the scoop went down, Mom came in to interview (I did her phone interview and showed her around the campus–coincidence! I think NOT!) and joined the campus and bing-bang-boom their story started. It’s a great story. Compelling. Romantic. I might have swooned a little reading it. They are a great couple.  And now after a long and winding road, they are a family. Party of three! With the most adorable and perfect little girl ever! Dad, add to list: “buy shotgun”.  You will have stinky boys banging down your door before you know it!

But let’s get to the good stuff:

Oh, did I mention she is a Halloween baby? I know there are many different camps about sharing birthdays with holidays (personally I wouldn’t mind since it would help me keep all the dates clear in my head!) but I think this is a pretty cool day to be born on. Randomly bought this banner from my favorite banner vendor Starlit Nest thinking I would have to wait until next year to use it. But was glad Mom mentioned she wanted to do something commemorating L’s birthday.

Can you believe those lips? These images are going to be small on the blog so they won’t give her lashes their full due. Amazing! Such a lovely little girl!

    Absolutely precious.

Miss L was very obliging with lots of different hair pretties and blankets. Mom gave me the go-ahead to use as much pink as I liked!

Love. love. love. love. love this one.

    And this one, too.

I asked a friend to make this feathered hair pretty for this session and I just absolutely LOVE it!

Oh that bottom lip! Watch out, Dad! That just might be her secret weapon!

Then we were setting up to do something else entirely and I ended up shooting these images. I am a sucker for black and white to begin with but these just speak to my heart.

    Daddy love.

Daddy and his girls. They are so beautiful and happy!

Oh, this one just really speaks to me.

But I just might love this one the most-est from the session.

The pooch I remember from back in the day. He’s watching over his new baby really well. And keeping an eye on me, for sure!

Did I mention I really love black and white? Well, I’ll mention that again. I do. Love black and white images. And I think I know where little sweet pea got those to-die-for lashes–her beautiful mama!

And a parting shot with Dodger. Good boy. Keep watching over your baby. She’ll be pulling your tail before you know it!

Thanks again, guys, for letting me into your home and your lives. It’s always a blessing to share in these first days! Enjoy!

‘Tis the season. . . for me to woefully fall behind on my blogging. I’m trying to catch up, I promise!

But I have a really great excuse! I have become an AUNT! It’s the greatest thing! You get to spoil and then hand over the baby to his parents! This is a GREAT gig! I’m truly enjoying it!

Of course, you know this means I got to play with my newest favorite model with the camera. He was the most obliging model. Seriously, I think he may have been the easiest newborn yet!

And the best part is that I get SO attached to all my newborns. Really! I do! And I get kind of sad because the parents get their images and prints and kind of forget about me for a while but I still am attached to “my” babies! Even if I don’t see them until they turn one! But this little guy.  .. swoon. .. I got to love on him during the newborn session and I can go back and love on him as much as I want!!! Yippee!

Well, enough of my jabbering on. .. let’s get to the best part: my most adorable nephew ever!

(and, okay, this is the longest blog post ever. trust me. it’s worth it!)

See that! Do you SEE that smile? Yep! He’s smiling for his auntie! Way to go, M! You already won my heart, now that’s the icing on the cake!

Can. you. get. enough. of. those. back. wrinkles? Nope. Me, either.

The lovely and talented, talented and lovely New Millie (check her out on Etsy!) created this dino hat and diaper cover after I fell in love with a different concept that I found on (of course!) Pinterest! Stephanie came up with an EVEN BETTER and so much cuter design and voila! She’s a genius. Swoon!

My favorite image from the session. Totally. Don’t you just want to nibble on that foot?

Another New Millie custom creation. And some hat from some stinky ol’ college. I told Mom and Dad I was going to have to charge extra for that one! Just kidding! I married an Aggie, remember?!

Dad had a lot of fun ideas and we ran with this one in the hat. And I finally got to use my “pea pod”. I kinda love this one the best, too!

More sweet goodness.  Oh he makes me want another one! I’m serious!

Then we moved into the nursery and these are some of my favorite lifestyle images ever. I absolutely LOVE his name letters on the wall! A very talented friend made them. Etsy, girl! Get yourself in business!

Pretty mama and her sweet son.

Yes, indeed, thank heaven for little boys!

A few more cozy images of the whole family:

If you know me, you know how much I love hands.

The one of little M looking up at Dad is possibly my most favoritest image ever.

And we didn’t leave out the original “babies”–none other than the D duo! The puppies are adjusting pretty well to their change in status!

And wrapping up with some images of Mom. Because I know how much I long for images of myself with my boys. And because she’s absolutely stunning! Love ya!

So, that about wraps that up! One of my favorite sessions. And not just because I got to celebrate our newest family member! Thanks again for putting up with my camera in your faces all the time!

    XOXO

    Lifestyle family

    Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

As my style continually evolves as a photographer, I’m starting to go in a little different direction with my photography. A little less pose-y. A little bit more “real”. The trade term is “lifestyle” and I’m not sure I want to go 100% in that direction, but I really am enjoying when a family “gets” what I’m wanting to do and really goes with it. And I’m doing a terrible job explaining that here. It’s late. I haven’t had a lot of sleep.

Ultimately my goal in your session is to capture You. Your family. Your kids. Right. Now.

It’s pretty simple. And it’s pretty powerful. And I truly love it.

And it was so great to meet up with this family last week and they totally “got it”. It was a lot of fun. I left the session really feeling the love and the connection within this family. They are a close family. It was really special.

But without further ado. . .here’s the sneak peek:

We started out at a local park.

It was very different to work with older kids! No chasing anyone around on the ground! No making sure someone didn’t eat dirt. It was pretty cool! Loved working with these kiddos. They were fun!

And I saw this old school tunnel when I showed up and just about had a heart attack! Awesomeness!

    And totally gorgeous:

After we pretty much froze at the park, we headed to their home for some more family images and a little more lifestyle.

So this little lady had the coolest room ever! A super-high canopy bed and the most pinkalicious walls, well. .. ever. And she’s TOTALLY into Texas right now! Whoo hoo! You know I was all about that!. So after I had seen her checking her phone throughout the session I made sure to capture her other interests while in her room.  So grown up! And Mom reminder here not to leave out her stuffed animals! More favorites! I love the juxtaposition of the very adult cell phone with the stuffed animals (“babies” as we call them in our house). It was really cool.

Then I asked her brother what he likes to do in his space: Pokemon and DS. Awesome.

At first he looked a bit uncomfortable on the bed playing his game, so I asked him what he would really do if he was just hanging out. So he got under the covers. This gave Mom and Dad a pretty good laugh when they peeked in to see how things were going. Don’t you love his awesome Star Wars wall hanging???

And then I captured Dad and son playing some serious stuff in the playroom.

This was a lot of fun. And showed me how little I truly understand about video games. I’m stuck back in Atari!

Wrapping up with one more family image:

It was a blast getting to meet and work with you all! Thanks so much for being yourselves and letting me document that! And for sharing your wonderful family with me!
