About Sabrina K. Photography:

Welcome to my blog! I'm Sabrina Koogler, and I love photography! I always have my nose in a photography book, camera to my face, working on a challenge, workshop, or contest (in between sessions and processing!) becoming the best photographer I can be! I used to teach high school Spanish, and now I'm a stay-at-home mom to two adorable, rascally boys. Sabrina K Photography is my third baby, born of the need to document all of the milestones, wild times, and quiet moments of my children and others. My style is fun and natural. I seek to document the authentic "you" in my images. I offer custom portraiture in the Houston area, and I'm based in Pearland. I enjoy working with natural light and studio lighting--it's fun having a dual-sort of personality! And it certainly keeps things interesting!

    Mr. K, sixteen days new

    Monday, January 23rd, 2012

    Okay, I’m in love! Big pink puffy heart love! This little guy and his family was absolutely perfect. Perfectly perfect! What a sweet little guy! Thank you for an awesome session!

    He has ladykiller eyelashes. Oh my goodness!

    Can you get enough of this sweetness? Me, either!

    I love it when my tiniest models strike their own pose! He got cozy in this position and I just thought it was the sweetest ever!

    Smiling for me!

    I just love that sweet little hand!

    I think this is my favorite newborn image to date. Not sure what it is, but I just love how peaceful and calm this is.

    More smiles!

    This hat by the incredible New Millie

    And then we transitioned to some family images.

    I just love this one. Her expression. New big sister. Not sure of this whole new baby stuff.

    Love the connection here!

    Thank you again for a wonderful session! You have the most beautiful family!!!

    Project 52: Week Three {refreshing}

    Thursday, January 19th, 2012

    or . . .seven reasons why I need a macro lens.

    I won’t got into detail, but apparently I like details and my current glass just isn’t cutting the mustard on this issue.

    So just about the most refreshing indulgence I can imagine is a Sonic Dr. Pepper with lime.

    Apparently I am not the only one who thinks so. ..

    this week I tried a bit of “time lapse” photography. Lots of ways to improve what I did here, but you’ve got to start somewhere, right?

    So here’s my take on {refreshing}

    Now go take a look-see over at  Misty Setzler | Lubbock TX Photographer to see her interpretation of this week’s theme.

    Smile with your eyes: Family Session

    Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

    I met up with this family right before Christmas when everyone was in town to do a fun family session. I am now considering requiring watching a marathon of “America’s Top Model” prior to sessions because we all had so much fun “smiling with our eyes” and striking some poses.  This was an incredibly fun family and they were listening when I mentioned to bring some props to help show the stuff they were “into”. I like it when clients get into sessions! It made meeting up at the park feel like a very natural, lifestyle session where we documented their authentic “you”-ness. But enough of my jabbering. Onto the super-huge share.

    Can you tell he’s missed his big sister while she’s been off at college?

    I didn’t ask him to climb the tree (not to put anyone in danger!) but he just hopped up there and seemed so in his element.

    Grandma was in town visiting for the holiday and it was so fun to have the generations together.

    I’ll give you a cookie if you can guess what they were acting out here. I love how these two siblings had fun and clearly have a close relationship.

    This just might be my favorite sibling shot to date.

    Watch out, ladies!

    So pretty! Normally I make a comment about Dad having a shotgun ready, but. ..Dad was already a step ahead of me:

    To showcase his interest in hunting, Dad brought some props, too!

    These are some of my favorite images I’ve taken lately. I really would love to do more of these edgy, very masculine black and whites.

    Then we switched gears a little bit to feature these guys’ love of reading:

    It was fun and authentic. Especially when we kind of had to drag everyone away from their books to move on!

    Mom and Dad. Did I mention it was surprisingly cold?

    Totally loved this one. Sometimes being cold is great for getting everyone in really close!

    Reference shotgun comments above. I am SO from Texas, can y’all tell?

    In addition to reading, these kids (young adults?) are into a slew of sports as well. Just loved this image with his lacrosse stick!

    And did I mention they were fun? Love this image. And I seriously did not even set it up. Love how organically the session came together!

    Thanks again for a great session! It was so fun getting to work with your family!

    Project 52: Week Two {newness}

    Thursday, January 12th, 2012

    I signed up for this project to really start getting out of my “box”.  To really try out some things that I can’t just go experimenting with clients. To do something OTHER than photograph my own children.

    But.  . .this week. .. there was plenty of  {newness} with my own child in this photo. And I did try taking these images in a {new} location (my younger son’s room, where I’ve always considered the lighting to be atrocious. A blackout curtain tends to do that to a room). Anyway. . .I take a monthly portrait of my kids until they are able to tell me they don’t want to take a monthly portrait. Here I was able to kill two birds documenting some {newness} AND 20 months old.
    First of all, my little many has adopted a new “baby”.  It’s quite lovely. The “baby” is a fluffy blue blanket. He rocks his baby. He sleeps with his baby. He takes his baby everywhere. He looks like Charlie Brown’s “Linus” walking around the house with his baby.  (Poor baby even got a mud bath dragging a corner out the side of the running stroller last week). Keane hearts his baby.It’s new and it’s sweet. It’s his first attachment object. At least it’s not a light saber.
    But, wait, the baby is not the only new addition to the house!  Introducing “pet”. “Pet” is an as-seen-on-tv Pillow Pet. Whoever created these monstrosities delightful diversions is a genuis. They are filled with kiddie-crack, I’m certain. Upon opening “Pet” on Christmas Day, they’ve been inseparable. K must sleep with Pet. Pet is now a family member. Oh well. At least I don’t have to feed him.
    And finally rounding out the trifecta of  {newness} is the “big boy haircut”.  We apparently like long hair.  My older son didn’t get a haircut until he was 2 1/2. K is 20 months and has loads more hair than Z did at this age. I was not ready, but now that it’s had a week to grow on me, I love the new big-boy look.
    So here is my official image for the week:
    So this is the money shot. Baby? Check. Pet? Check. Big boy haircut? Check.
    *sob* I’m not sure I’m ready for all this newness. Especially a big little boy who talks a mile a minute and now looks like a little man!
    And here are a few other images. A little rough and tumble with Pet. “Reading” his new favorite book (“dig-n-dump”). And more of that big boy hair:
    In case you are just getting to know me, here’s a reference of how the hair has changed my baby into a big boy:
